The Journey Begins (Introductory Post)
Hello Everyone. Welcome to my blog. This is my first post. I figured that I should start off with letting you all know a little about my background first, so you can know where I'm starting my journey from. We can work together to go from living paycheck to paycheck to having control over our own financial destiny.
I come from a long line of hard-working women on both sides of my family. All the adult women in my family either work or are retired. I'm hesitant to say financially independent, because they all depend on a paycheck or pension. I've seen firsthand how depending on one main income stream can result in not being able to fully pursue your interests, not being able to attend all of your children's events, not being able to look properly after your own health due to working at times when you should take off, and of course the devastation that cab result from abruptly losing that income due to any number of circumstances. I have the upmost respect for all of them, but after having children of my own, I decided that I need to do things differently. I want to be able to make money without sacrificing being there for my children as much as I would want, and I also want the freedom to pursue my own interests without neglecting myself as well.
I have diverse interests, but as of now my main job is a freelance iOS developer. I recently started investing small sums of money in various mutual funds/stocks/indexes. I've had moderate exposure to rental real estate investing, although I have yet to personally get involved (mostly due to perceived capital limitations). As you can see I'm very early in my financial journey, but I'm excited to start this path. I'll be sharing with you new things that I learn and experiences that I'm going through.
